About the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart
Stone ridge school of the sacred heart was founded 1923 by the society of the sacred hearts. The school environment is conducive for learning. It’s a catholic school with students from a different religions, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds within and outside Bethesda.
Stone ridge school of the sacred heart has a rich investment of modern day technology and techniques for learning and girl child education. The school was founded by St Madeleine Sophie Barat. . At stone ridge school, they have 126 teaching faculty, 124 with a master’s degree and 16 with their Doctorate degree. There is nothing that inspires students than when their teacher is someone they can look up to.
The school is organized in such a way that each girl is allowed to build on their classroom learning outside the school walls and it encourages them to connect and engage to each other, understanding their selves and the world around them. Furthermore, stone ridge school is a global network in 41 countries and 150 schools. The school has five goals which are; Faith, intellect, social action, community and growth. The students are given the opportunity to develop the potentials and talent within, they are given the opportunity to explore opportunities. You will be pleased to note that nobody is exempted, for example, the Grade 5 students built Rube Goldberg machine (a complex contraption designed to achieve a simple task).
The school is divided into sections from the toddler, ECP2, preschool, kindergarten, Lower school, middle school and the upper school.
As an advantage, stone ridge school has gotten so many awards, to this effect the school has gotten the “Seal of Biliteracy”, an award given by participating school systems that recognizes a student’s high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages other than English. This encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills of students and this is one of the attractive skills that employers and college admissions offices take note of. Stone ridge school was the first all-girls school in Maryland to offer the opportunity to earn the seal of Biliteracy award in 2009 of which 21 girls earned the Biliteracy seal.
Here the girls are made to master a rigorous curriculum and equip themselves into array of co-curricular and servant leadership experience. There is close contact between each of the students and with their teachers to the extent that each student is known and celebrated. It will interest you to note that Upper school travel throughout the United States and abroad and often host girls from other Network school. They participate in summer service projects with other network schools. Stone ridge school provides a curriculum founded on critical thinking that help girls in this stage nurture their God-given gifts and talents. Courses offered in upper school are grounded in substantive and necessary questions that makes the students participate effectively in studying, reading, discussions, question asking and rethinking.
The upper school also has student support of counsellors that encourage students to focus on personal growth and effective learning. Here the students are divide to small groups, working with their teachers, communicating with other students, documentation of each student’s progress. To encourage the leadership qualities here the upper school created the following leadership roles;
Elected Student Bodies
Examples include; Core Group, Class Officers, Honor Committee/Board and Athletic Association Blue/Gold Reps. The Core Group serves all upper school grade levels and fosters an environment of good order, high morale, school spirit, and school community growth and well-being. The Core Group meets to discuss and address issues of concern to the student body and to provide suggestions and ideas germane to the improvement of student life at Stone Ridge. Class Officers plan many grade level activities including spirit week, school dances, ring day and more. The Honor Board acts as a hearing board and honor committee. As honor committee, the group is charged with reviewing honor and integrity at Stone Ridge and to putting forth recommendations on how to continue to foster a community committed to these ideals.

Diversity and Culture Groups
Examples include Asian ApreciAsian, Black Student Alliance, Amig@s, Spectrum, Allies, and Multiracial Student Association.
Interscholastic Teams
Examples include It’s Academic, Model United Nations, Science Competitions, Robotics, etc. Interscholastic Teams compete against other area schools.
School Community Governance Groups
School Community Governance groups (SCGs) are an opportunity for students to gain more awareness of the causes that are important to the student body. Topics are determined based on student interest. Examples include Gators Troops Love, Habitat, Amnesty International, Best Buddies, Gators Halt Hunger, Operation Smile, Sacred Heart Health, Good Samaritan, Oceana, PAWS, CARE Cancer Awareness, etc.
Social Action Reflection Groups
Social Action Reflection Groups meet after every Social Action Wednesday.
Performance and Arts Groups
Examples include a capella (Heartfelt), Literary Magazine (Callithump), Music Ministry.
After-school Clubs
After-school clubs generally fall into specific categories such as career interest, exploration/enrichment of a discipline, artistic expression and those that are just for fun. Examples include World Language Clubs, Science Clubs, Book Club, Dance Clubs, Arts Clubs, and Gators for Life Club, etc.
Ad Hoc Committees
Examples include Dance Committees, Feast Wishes Committee, Caffeine Committee, TEDx Committees, etc.
Simultaneously, stone ridge encourages young women to “lead and seve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom” through retreat program which include the first academic retreat “lumen retreat”, the second “Agape Retreat”, the third “Renewal Retreat”, the fourth “Cor Unum”.
Lower school section has classroom projects to support the poor, or serving through social action with their upper school classmates for an entire day at local.
In Preschool there is project to actively engage the students. Stone ridge school has co-association with other organization as members like the AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland & DC schools as an accredited member), AISGW (The association of Independent schools of Greater Washington), NAIS (National Association of independent schools), and NCGS (National Coalition of Girls Schools), Member CSEE.

Stone ridge school of the sacred heart offers admission to every girl child from infant, the child care program, lower school, middle school to upper school.
