About Stokes County Schools
Stokes County Schools is a school system in Shelby County, Kentucky, United States. The schools are part of the Kentucky Department of Education.
Stokes County Schools was established in 1875 by order of the Kentucky General Assembly. The first school was erected on the current site of the Middle School in 1875. The present high school building was built in 1924, and the elementary school building was built in 1915. The original name for the school system was Shelby County Normal School District No. 2. In 1924, a new name for the school system was adopted – Stokes County Schools – after Dr. John S. Stokes, a prominent figure in education in Shelby County and a member of the Board of Education.
