The main difference between being a D1 basketball player and a D1 football player is that basketball players are not allowed to play any organized contact sports until their freshman year of high school. In fact, when I played D1 football in college, I would be called to school from practice every night at 10:00pm.
Also, during my time at Morehouse, I received scholarship offers from the NCAA schools, but then other colleges would offer D1 basketball scholarships because they could offer me my preferred (post-graduate) major of Pharmacy. I ended up choosing the school that had the best basketball offer, but I was the only D1 football player to receive an offer in college.
