Admission requirements for International students at LAVC

Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) is approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to issue I-20s (Certificates of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status).

International Students will be considered for admission to LAVC if all of the following requirements are met:

  • All students must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible to apply.
  • Admission Application – Apply online by the due date.  Endeavor to answer all questions correctly.  Note: The online application contains questions about your visa status under the area “Visa and Dependent Information.” If you have an F-1 Visa, please enter the information as stated on your visa.
  • Submit one Passport size photograph
  • Student Information Sheet- Must be fully completed and signed. Make sure your chosen major is offered by LAVC. See Major and Code List
  • Application Processing Fee – There is a non-refundable application fee of $50 to be paid online with a credit or debit card.
  • Passport – Provide a copy of your passport
  • Visa Information – Provide copies of your visa and I-94 (if applicable)
  • English Language Requirement – Students must have full English language proficiency. The following methods may be used to show proficiency:
    • Original academic transcripts showing six semesters of secondary (high school) English or above, or
    • Original TOEFL score of 45 IBT, 133 CBT or 450 PBT, or
    • IELTS score of 4
  • Academic Records – Provide notarized copies of your High School (Secondary School) diploma and transcripts if they are in English. If your High School diploma and transcripts are not in English, you must submit translated and notarized copies as well as the copies from the original documents. Do not send your original documents to us.

Once you are admitted to the college, we will send you a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, more commonly known as an I-20.

How Much Does It Cost To Study At La Valley College? La Valley Tuition

At Los Angeles Valley College, California Residents pay only $46 per unit for classes. You can save thousand of dollars when you complete your lower division requirements at Los Angeles Valley College before transferring to a four year institution. LAVC offers high quality academic courses for a price lower than what other colleges and universities charge.

Here’s what you can expect to pay at Los Angeles Valley College:

  • Enrollment fee – California Residents – $46 per unit

How To Order For Official Transcripts At Los Angeles Valley College and/or Verification of Enrollment

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Los Angeles Valley College has moved most staff to work remotely. This has limited our ability to produce transcripts, and verifications. During this period, we are not offering RUSH services. Please expect delays. 

We have transitioned to a multi-campus transcript, which now includes a record of coursework taken at any of the nine Los Angeles Community College District campuses.

That means, you can now order one transcript for all the credit and noncredit courses you have completed at LAVC, L.A. City College, East L.A. College, L.A. Harbor College, L.A. Mission College, L.A. Pierce College, L.A. Southwest College, L.A. Trade Tech College, or West LA College.

You may order official transcripts and/or verifications of enrollment one of the following ways:

  • Online: Transcripts may be ordered online via Parchment.
  • In-Person: You may order your official transcripts and/or verification of enrollment in person at the Admissions and Records Office. Payments in person must be made by cash, money order, or credit/debit cards.

Available Scholarship Opportunities At La Valley College

The Los Angeles Valley College Foundation offers scholarships and opportunities to LAVC students so that they continue to excel in their educational careers. All scholarships and opportunities are provided out of the large hearts of independent donors, LAVC alumni, and the campus community (and therefore vary in amounts, due dates and eligibility requirements).

Accounting Scholarship

Established to benefit a student who has completed Accounting 1 and Business Law 1 with a grade of “A.”

Ageton-Pittenger Perpetual Scholarship

The former students of Aura Lee Ageton-Pittenger established this scholarship in her memory. It will benefit a student with outstanding academic merit.

Anatomy Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the LAVC Biology Department and will benefit a student who has completed Anatomy 1 at LAVC.

Associated Student Union Scholarship 1

The applicant must be currently enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College and must have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.4. The student must be enrolled in at least 6 units for the Spring Semester. Two $250 scholarships will be awarded.

Associated Student Union Scholarship 2

The applicant must be currently enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College and have a GPA of 3.5 or greater. The student must be enrolled in 12 units in the Spring Semester and also be a paid member of ASU. There will be one $500 scholarship awarded.

Bernard Osher Scholarship

Established by the Bernard Osher Foundation and the Foundation for California Community Colleges, this scholarship will benefit students who are recipients of the College Promise. Osher Scholars will be able to receive $500 for one semester or a total of $1000 for two semesters.

Bill Cloon Memorial Scholarship in Kinesiology

This scholarship was established in memory of Bill Cloon, who had a career in law enforcement, and who also volunteered throughout his life as a coach and mentor in athletics.  It is in this spirit that this scholarship will be awarded to a student studying Kinesiology and wanting to continue in sports, either as a professional coach in any sport, or as volunteer, at any level, including children, teens or adults.  Female applicants are encouraged to apply.

Biology 3 Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the LAVC Biology Department and will benefit students who have a received a minimum grade of “A” in Biology 3.

Earleen DeVivo Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Earleen DeVivo established this scholarship in her memory. Professor DeVivo was a member of the LAVC faculty and taught Psychology. This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding academic student majoring in Psychology.

Monte Toole Memorial Scholarship in Engineering or Machine Shop

Alumnus Monte Toole and his family established this scholarship through the Toole Endowment. It will be awarded to students who have taken or are currently taking courses in engineering or machine shop at L.A. Valley College. It is the hope that this scholarship will ultimately assist students pursuing a career in engineering or a technical vocational career.
